Yellow Raincoats

The subject of yellow raincoats has kept coming back to me, again and again. I’ve been painting them regularly for over ten years, and lately, they return to my brushes constantly. Every time I come back from visiting my parents on the coast of Finistère (in Brittany, west of France), the urge resurfaces.
I paint my memories, my heritage, my connection to Brittany. That pulsing yellow, so vivid, so alive.
I paint the material, the texture that captures every glimmer of light.
I paint walking in the rain—if not dancing, then at least living—facing the unleashed elements. I paint those raincoats hanging in the family garage.
I paint the sea spray, the raging ocean, the Four lighthouse and, in the distance, Ouessant and Molène, guardians of countless shipwrecks.
I paint dampness, from the comfort of a dry place. I paint the harshness of my native climate, the drops sliding down, the bursting light, the mist that wraps around everything.
I paint my roots.
And they are cadmium yellow.

My paintings are available for purchase. Please contact me for more details.
