Christine Gouez-Manhes
born in 1975 in Brest (France), lives and works in Toulouse, South of France.
« At the age of 18, I stumbled upon painting by accident or chance and since then, I have always felt the need to paint, to capture moments and to transcribe them with my own perspective, my personal touch. I started by practicing watercolor to depict the landscapes of my native Brittany, in South West of France. And I pursued this artistic exploration throughout my life in parallel with my profession, which led me to evolve in an international context.
This vital need to create and my curiosity prompted me to join numerous workshops to perfect my technique and to open myself to new practices. For instance, for three years, at the Beaux-Arts workshops in the city of Paris, I practiced documentary study and trompe l’oeil painting.
Throughout my life rich of expatriation and travels, I have experienced many human encounters. Men, women, children and scenes that I witnessed and carefully captured to transcribe them later in the studio on my canvas. Each of these shared moments, which nourished me and which I fix in my paintings, reflects a moment of complicity, a transmission, various emotions, and moods.
On my canvases, which I seek to be realistic while freeing myself from academic technique, the background and the form can sometimes interpenetrate, the impasto takes its liberties.
My desire is to capture the essence and richness of each of my subjects and allow for other encounters. To see the viewer absorbed by a gaze, emotionally connected to the subject of the portrait, deeply touches me. »

I live the painting, I am color, movement, energy.
I immerse myself and everything fades away.
I immerse myself and everything is created.
